I have been filing my own taxes since I got my first job at the age 16. It blows my mind when friends and family members tell me how they pay an arm and a leg to get their taxes done. Most people can file their taxes completely free thanks to the federal government! Did you know that 70% of all tax payers are eligible for their free file program? First Time Tax Self-Filer
With TurboTax, the website walks you step-by-step through the process. It literally asks you yes or no questions and asks you to fill in the blanks. I had been doing a couple of my friend's taxes this way for many years. One friend decided to take the leap this year and do it on her own. I encouraged her to try it out! I received a call yesterday from my friend with excitement in her voice. “I did it”, she exclaimed. “What did you do”, I ask totally forgetting about our previous conversation. “I filed my taxes and it WAS really easy”, she responded. As someone with no financial background or real interest in money, she took the step and was able to learn new things about taxes. It is a real confidence booster when you can take money into your own hands and not depend on someone else to handle it for you. Not to mention, no one is going to care more about your finances than you. Please stop wasting money getting tax professionals to file for you. If you have simple taxes, do it yourself!
If you decide to file your taxes on your own this year, I would love to hear your success story. Send me an email or let me know via social media! You can do it!
